Relationship Talk

Relationships can be so difficult. I believe it helps to have other people in relationships to discuss different compromises that have worked for them. I think this can help other people omit divorce from their vocabulary.

Things can get better

I know that you are thinking that you don't see any hope in sight for your relationship. I don't think there is a couple on this earth that does not want to throw in the towel and give up at times. Some more than others. I believe that as long as violence isn't an issue in your relationship and you still love your spouse, there is hope. One of the most important things a counselor told me one time was, when you are fighting no one is listening. They are simply waiting for their turn to express their side. Go to your separate corners. Take a walk, take a long bath or just simply leave the room. It really does help to cool off and then try to discuss the issue when you are both calmed down. Men do things to show us they love us and we tell them over and over. So when they don't tell us we get our feelings hurt and then start nagging about the shower head that still needs to be installed in the guest bathroom. Instead of telling them that our feelings are hurt. As Dr. Phil says...you cannot change what you don't acknowledge. So, if you realize it just stop doing it. It is hard but it has been a habit in our life for so long. Give it a try. See if things get better. No threats just honest feelings.
